Rod's work includes a variety of genre and covers a wide artistic spectrum including — sporting art, wildlife art, portraiture, landscape, fantasy, still-life, and even abstract realism.
He is most interested in those experiences of awe and wonder. The magical moments when everything else around us seems bigger and more important while ourselves become smaller and less important.
Rod is most well known for his sporting art, having been featured in dozens of sporting books, journals and outdoor magazines, some of these include — Grays Sporting Journal, Sporting Classics, Classic Angling (UK), Big Sky Journal, Outdoor America, Yale Angling Journal, Wildlife and Nature Journal, Eddies (US Fish and Wildlife Service.) His work has also been published in many other journals, anthologies and books here in America, Europe and Japan.
His work has been included in many national museums and gallery exhibits and collections —including the Smithsonian, Chicago Art Institute, Ward Museum, American Museum of Flyfishing, High Museum,GA , NY Museum of Natural History, Indiana State Museum as well many others.
Rods work has been described by biographers and collectors as ethereal and soulful. One writer likened his work to expressing those emotions that lay on the fringes of fog-muted light. His work focuses on the persistent memories and experiences we all share. Those moments reminding us we are not alone.
